Dry Creek is best known for zinfandel, which thrives in the warm afternoons and well-drained soils, and for sauvignon blanc that competes with anything from the Loire Valley. A full-day Dry Creek tour starts with a 10 AM pickup at your Healdsburg hotel or the Plaza, drives north on Dry Creek Road for a 10:30 tasting at a benchmark estate (we like Quivira or Dry Creek Vineyard to set the baseline), continues to a lunch stop around 12:30 — either packed picnic at Preston or a winery with on-site food — followed by an afternoon tasting at a boutique estate (Bella's cave is the crowd favorite) and ending with a final tasting at an old-vine specialist before returning to Healdsburg by 5 PM. Five to six hours, three to four tastings, lunch in the middle, plenty of time at each stop.

Dry Creek Valley has narrow, two-lane roads with no shoulder, blind curves, and tractor traffic during harvest. Driving them while tasting is irresponsible.
